Choose a wedding suit that suits your venue and feels like something you’d actually wear. If you’re comfortable in navy and rarely wear a tie, that’s a useful starting point. You don’t need to abandon your taste because you’re getting married.
I’m Rajat Nagpal, owner of Suited Booted & Co. When we talk about wedding suits for Vancouver grooms, I want to know where you’re getting married, what the dress code is and which parts of dressing up you enjoy. That gives us something practical to work from.
Start with the setting
A Fraser Valley garden wedding calls for different decisions than a formal evening reception downtown. Think about how much time you’ll spend outside, how formal the room feels and what you’ve asked your guests to wear.
For a relaxed summer ceremony, consider a lighter colour or a linen suit. For black-tie, start with a tuxedo. If you’re moving between an outdoor ceremony and an indoor reception, choose with both settings in mind.
Vancouver rain deserves a little thought, too. Plan how you’ll get from the car to the ceremony and where you’ll take photographs if it’s wet. Your shoes need to work with that plan.
Choose a suit you’ll want to wear again
Navy and charcoal are sensible starting points if you’d like to use the suit after the wedding. A lighter colour can make sense for a summer celebration, but don’t choose it just because it looks good in someone else’s photographs.
Look at fabric in daylight as well as indoors. If you prefer a quieter finish, say so. There’s no need for a blanket rule against sheen, especially when you’re considering a tuxedo with satin details.
We cut from Guabello, Scabal, Marzotto, Marzoni, VBC and Reda. The mill name alone shouldn’t make the decision for you. We’ll talk about the setting and how you plan to wear the suit.
Our two-piece suits start at $697 CAD, three-piece suits are $850, tuxedos are $797 and linen suits start at $797, before tax. Start with a budget you’re comfortable with, then account for the shirt and any accessories you still need.
Give the groom a little distinction
You can stand apart from your groomsmen without putting everyone in completely different outfits. A waistcoat for you and two-piece suits for them is one option. A different tie is another. Choose the detail you like rather than adding several just to make the point.
Groomsmen suits start at $647 CAD before tax. For the group, agree on the overall direction early so each person knows what they’re expected to wear and spend.
Keep the shirt and tie connected
A white shirt is a straightforward place to start. With custom shirts, think about the collar alongside your jacket and tie. Bring a tie you already own if you want to use it, rather than trying to remember its colour.
Custom shirts are $137 CAD before tax. If you’re wearing cufflinks, tell me while we’re discussing the shirt. For a tuxedo, we should discuss the shirt front and collar as part of the same outfit.
Keep the tie’s width in proportion to the lapels. For black-tie, choose a bow tie. Our silk ties are $89.99 CAD before tax, but you don’t need to replace one you already like if it works with the suit.
Sort out shoes and the small details
Choose shoes with the formality of the outfit in mind. Black dress shoes are a sensible starting point for a tuxedo; with a suit, consider the colour and setting before deciding between black and brown.
Wear new shoes before the wedding so you can find out where they rub. Try the full outfit together, including the socks. That’s also the time to check your tie, pocket square and cufflinks.
A plain white pocket square keeps the decision simple. If you’d rather wear a pattern, keep it connected to the outfit without matching every accessory exactly. Leave room on the lapel for your boutonnière, and arrange for someone to help pin it on.
For grooming, stick close to what you know works. Leave enough time after a haircut for it to settle, and avoid testing unfamiliar skin products just before the day.
Leave room in the calendar
Delivery is 3 to 4 weeks from measurement. For weddings and groups, book 8 to 12 weeks before the date to be comfortable. All sales are final, so take the time to settle your choices before ordering.
We’re based in Langley and don’t have a showroom. I come to your home or office anywhere in Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley. There’s no travel fee anywhere in Metro Vancouver, including the North Shore. We’re open 9am to 9pm daily.
