Start with the dress code and the date
For a Vancouver wedding, choose your suit around the dress code and how much of the day you’ll spend outside. Then leave enough time to get it made. For weddings and groups, I recommend booking 8 to 12 weeks before the date. Delivery takes 3 to 4 weeks from measurement, but you’ll want breathing room around everyone’s schedules.
I’m Rajat Nagpal, and I run Suited Booted & Co. from Langley. We’re a mobile custom tailoring business, so I come to your home or office. If you’re sorting out your wedding outfit for 2026, here’s where I’d start.
Let the invitation guide the suit
A black-tie reception calls for a different outfit from an afternoon ceremony in the Fraser Valley. Check the invitation before deciding on colour. If you’re the groom, settle the dress code with your partner before asking the groomsmen to buy anything.
- Black tie: Plan for a tuxedo. A lighter-coloured summer suit won’t meet the same dress code just because the wedding’s in July.
- Formal or black-tie optional: A dark navy or charcoal suit is a useful option if you’re choosing a suit rather than a tuxedo.
- Relaxed outdoor ceremony: You’ve got more room for lighter grey, sand or blue. Sage and other earth tones are worth considering if they fit the wedding’s colours.
You don’t need a trend report to choose a colour. Think about the setting, what your partner’s wearing and where you’ll wear the suit afterwards. If you need it for work too, navy may earn its place in your wardrobe sooner than sand.
Choose summer cloth with the whole day in mind
A ceremony might last half an hour, but you’ll be in your suit through photographs, dinner and dancing. An outdoor afternoon in the Fraser Valley has different demands from an indoor reception in Yaletown. Tell me about both parts of the day when we discuss cloth.
Lightweight wool is a sensible starting point. For warmer settings, ask about high-twist wool and open weaves rather than judging comfort by colour alone. The weave and jacket construction matter alongside the fabric’s weight.
Linen has a relaxed texture, and it creases. You should like that quality before choosing it. Wool-linen or wool-silk-linen blends are options to discuss if you want some linen texture with a different drape. No summer cloth comes with a promise that you’ll stay crease-free through hours of sitting.
For a less formal ceremony, a softer shoulder or less structured jacket may suit the day. Keep the dress code in view, though. We cut from Guabello, Scabal, Marzotto, Marzoni, VBC and Reda; we can discuss cloth choices during your consultation.
Give the groomsmen a clear plan
Start with the budget before choosing fabric. Each person needs to know what they’re being asked to spend and when they need to be measured. Groomsmen suits start at $647 CAD before tax. Share that starting point early rather than leaving the money conversation until everyone’s committed.
For a coordinated group, keep the main decisions consistent: suit cloth, level of formality and accessories. The fit should suit each person. Matching suits don’t require every jacket and trouser leg to have identical proportions.
If you want the groom to stand apart, consider a different tie or a waistcoat. You don’t have to change the entire suit colour. Agree on footwear expectations too, so nobody’s trying to resolve that detail the week of the wedding.
